Safety at Brooklyn Borough-Based Jail
Five Star Electric is proud to play a critical role in the construction of the new Brooklyn Borough-Based Jail Facility at 275 Atlantic Avenue. Our scope includes major electrical infrastructure and systems such as switchgear, power distribution, backup power, fire alarm systems, security systems, communications, convenience power, and all lighting and lighting controls.
With multiple trades working across several floors, safety is foundational. Our crews start each day with Job Hazard Analyses and Pre-Task Safety Plans to clearly outline the work, identify potential hazards, and establish controls before work begins. These plans focus on activities such as Q-deck operations, overhead work, hot work, temporary power and lighting, and working in shared spaces.
Temporary power is a critical lifeline of the project and is managed with the highest level of discipline and accountability. All temporary electrical systems are installed, operated, serviced, and maintained in strict compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
The goal is simple and non-negotiable: all systems must be maintained in a safe condition and remain within their normal operating limits. To ensure this, all applicable temporary power circuits are protected by GFCI’s and tested daily to confirm proper operation. Equipment and tools are routinely inspected and protected from damage, with any deficiencies corrected immediately.
Through proactive planning, strong field leadership, and open communication, Five Star Electric continues to set the standard for safety on this project. As work progresses, our focus remains steady: protecting the workforce, supporting our partners, and delivering this project safely – every day, every shift, every task.
